What's in it
- 1L IV fluids
Some people just want fluids. This option is intentionally plain: a bag of balanced IV fluids, a comfortable chair, and about forty-five minutes. Your clinician will talk through why you came in and whether fluids by IV make sense for you today, or whether a glass of water and some rest would do the same job.
Often a good fit
- A long flight or a long shift
- Heat, hiking, or a hard workout
- A first visit when you are not sure what to pick
Skip it, or ask first, if
- You have a heart or kidney condition that limits fluid intake
- You are experiencing symptoms that need urgent care
- You are under 18, pregnant, or breastfeeding, unless a clinician has specifically cleared it.
In the chair
Plan on about 45 minutes once the drip starts, plus ten minutes of screening before. A nurse places a small cannula, usually in the forearm or hand, checks on you throughout, and removes it when the bag is done. You can read, work, nap, or talk to whoever came with you. Most people walk out and get on with their day.
