Your first visit
About an hour, start to finish.
Here is the whole thing, minute by minute, so nothing in the room is a surprise. The only part that changes is what your clinician decides with you.

You arrive
Check in at the desk with a photo ID. If you booked online, we already have your name and the drip you were thinking about. If you walked in, you pick a drip now, or pick nothing and decide after the screening.

Screening with a clinician
A nurse or physician assistant takes your blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and asks about your health history, medications, allergies, and why you came in today. This is a real medical screening, and it is the reason the lounge exists. Some answers lead to a different drip. Some lead to no drip at all, and no charge.
-
15 min
Mixed to order
Once the clinician signs off, your nurse prepares the drip in front of you from sealed, single-use components. You will hear what is going in and in what amount. If you asked for an add-on, this is when it is confirmed or declined.
-
20 min
The cannula
A small pinch, usually in the forearm or the back of the hand. Then the drip starts at a slow rate while your nurse checks that everything feels normal. Flushing, a metallic taste, or a cool feeling in the arm are common with certain ingredients and will be explained before you feel them.
-
20 to 80 min
The chair
Recline. Tea, water, and blankets come around. Read, work, or nap. Your nurse checks in at least every fifteen minutes and is a wave away the rest of the time. If anything feels wrong, say so immediately.
-
After
Out the door
The cannula comes out, a small dressing goes on, and you are free to leave. Keep the dressing on for an hour. Drink normally, eat normally, and call us if the site becomes red, swollen, or painful in the days after.
Who you'll meet
Three jobs in every room.
Front desk host
Checks you in, keeps the tea hot, and knows which chair gets the best light at 4pm.
Screening clinician
A nurse practitioner or physician assistant who does your screening and decides, with you, whether and what to pour.
Infusion nurse
A registered nurse who mixes the drip, places the cannula, and watches over the room from start to finish.
All lounges operate under a medical director, a physician who sets the screening rules and reviews the menu. Juniper IV is fictional; the roles above describe how a real lounge of this kind would be staffed.
